Blackhawks Fire Off Early Offense to Down Jets 6–3
Final Score: Blackhawks 6, Jets 3
The Blackhawks opened their season in style, relying on a dominant six-goal burst across the first two periods to secure a 6–3 victory over the Jets.
The Jets opened the scoring late in the first period when Marwan Kubursi found the net off passes from George Alexopoulos and Peter Boyko. However, the Blackhawks quickly responded before the period expired, striking twice in under forty seconds with goals from Ron Cottes and Mark Brady to grab a 2–1 lead.
The second frame belonged entirely to the Blackhawks, led by Art Galloway, who recorded an impressive natural hat trick with three consecutive goals. Paul Romain added another strike to blow the game open at 6–1. The Jets clawed back with goals from Steve Smith late in the second and Glen Chiasson in the third, but Blackhawks goaltender Bryan Saraka held firm to earn the victory between the pipes, while Walt Skobel took the loss for the Jets.
Bruins Pull Away Late in 5–2 Victory Over Flyers

A balanced attack and strong physical play carried the Bruins past the Flyers in an energetic 5–2 contest.
John Pappas put the Bruins on the board midway through the first period, converting a feed from Greg McLachlan. The Bruins widened the gap in the second period with back-to-back tallies from Bill Begley and Tony Primerano. John Munro added a fourth Bruins goal before Pat Mlot got the Flyers on the board at the 5:30 mark of the second.
Primerano struck again in the third frame to notch his second goal of the night, sealing the game for the Bruins. Tony Kramreither added an unassisted goal for the Flyers later in the third, but Bruins netminder Tony Cioffi closed out the win, holding the Flyers to just two goals.
Stars Lock Down 4–2 Win Over Rangers
The Stars leveraged a strong opening frame and insurance scoring in the third to top the Rangers 4–2 in the nightcap.
Andy Suboch got the Stars moving midway through the first period, capitalizing on an assist from Peter Neto. Chris Ballanger doubled the lead shortly after off assists from Les Aykler and Grant Stummer. The Rangers responded in the second period when Ed Liston beat substitute goalie David Marks to cut the deficit to one.
The third period brought quick action, with Andrew Miocevich and Joseph Shaw converting back-to-back scores for the Stars to put the game out of reach. Rangers forward John O'Donnell added a late marker with under two minutes remaining, but it was not enough to spark a full comeback. Marks claimed the win in net for the Stars, while Keith Connell absorbed the loss for the Rangers.
